Professional Résumé
Councillor Russel Arends, representing Ward 11 for the African National Congress (ANC) in the Knysna Local Municipality, has a notable and cross-party career in local government. He currently serves as the Chairperson of the Infrastructure Services Committee, a role he took on following changes in the Mayoral Committee, overseeing all infrastructure-related matters, fleet management, and mechanical services for the municipality. Notably, prior to his current ANC affiliation, Cllr Arends previously served as a Ward Councillor for Ward 9 in Knysna from 2011 to 2015, representing the Democratic Alliance (DA) during that period — a background that gives him a uniquely broad perspective on local governance. His principled stand against a proposed council salary increase, where he voted against the motion, earned him public recognition. He has also been actively involved in community initiatives including civic education programmes and relief efforts during severe weather conditions. He is also a Garden Route District Representative.
