Résumé
David (Dave) Swart is the Ward 2 Councillor for Bitou Local Municipality, representing the Democratic Alliance (DA). Born in Cape Town, he matriculated from Sea Point Boys' High School in 1976 and completed compulsory national service in the South African Air Force as a telecom operator. In 1982 he entered the commercial sector, joining Cadburys as a sales merchandiser and progressing to key account manager roles with FMCG companies including Bushe Boake Allen and International Flavours and Fragrances. In 2003 he became a self-employed distributor for Quest International Flavours. Seeking a lifestyle change, he relocated to Plettenberg Bay in 2010 to run a backpackers lodge. He served as Chairperson of the Plett Accommodation Association (2013–2015) and entered politics when the DA approached him for the Ward 2 by-election in April 2017, which he won. He served as Executive Mayor of Bitou following the 2021 elections and currently also serves as MMC Finance for the Garden Route District Municipality.
