Résumé
Jessica Nokwanda Kamkam is the Ward 1 Councillor and Executive Mayor of Bitou Local Municipality, representing the Democratic Alliance (DA). Born and raised in the Crags area of Kurland Village, Ward 1, she attended secondary school in Knysna before pursuing tertiary studies in Gqeberha. After returning to Bitou, she worked extensively in community development and outreach programmes. In September 2013 she joined the office of the Bitou Municipal Speaker, which deepened her political awareness and commitment to public service. On the encouragement of then-Speaker Annelise Olivier, she stood as a DA candidate in the 2016 local government elections, winning with a healthy majority, and was re-elected in 2021. Known for her feisty debating style, warm personality, and deep Griqua heritage, she was elected Executive Mayor on 26 August 2024 — the first woman to hold the mayoral chains since the advent of democracy in Bitou. She is committed to sustainable community development, food security, and public–private partnerships.
