Aubrey Tsengwa has a notable and resilient political career within the Knysna Local Municipality, having served as a councillor since 2016. He held significant leadership roles, including Deputy Executive Mayor and subsequently Executive Mayor of Knysna, making him one of the most senior political figures the municipality has seen. Although he faced a period of resignation and temporary suspension from the ANC following allegations of misconduct related to the appointment of political appointees in March 2025, he demonstrated remarkable resilience by successfully contesting and winning a by-election in June 2025, reclaiming his position as the Ward 8 Councillor. His re-election with a decisive majority underscores the community's continued confidence in his leadership and commitment to service delivery. Tsengwa's political journey highlights his enduring dedication to local governance and his sustained involvement in the African National Congress in the Garden Route region.
